Moncrief Cancer Center Selects Compellent Storage Area Network to Ensure Superior Customer Care

Storage Center provides reliable and scaleable enterprise storage solution enabling continuous availability to patient data

Minneapolis, Nov. 30, 2004 — Compellent Technologies, a provider of modular, affordable storage solutions distributed exclusively through a select national network of business partners, today announced the Moncrief Cancer Center, a provider of state-of-the-art cancer treatment services, has selected Compellent's Storage Center® storage area network (SAN) to ensure continuous availability to patient data.

"With more than 1,200 new patients each year, we require a scalable enterprise storage solution that ensures our clinical and administrative personnel always have access to the latest patient data," said Dawn Hauser, IT manager for Moncrief. "Storage Center provides a continuous safety net. Whether my staff is doing a backup or testing new software, I know I don't have to worry about bringing users down."

Before implementing Storage Center, Moncrief stored more than two terabytes of data across 11 different servers. With limited staff, major application upgrades occurring every quarter and storage capacity growing at 50 percent per year, uninterrupted access to patient records and network services was a significant storage administration challenge.

BestData Strategies, a regional data storage consulting firm, assisted Moncrief with the decision to move to the Compellent SAN. "Storage Center is giving Moncrief dozens of hours each month of additional productivity. Several processes that used to take hours or days are now done in minutes," said Robert Yarbrough, President, BestData Strategies.

"The Compellent SAN is not just an administrative IT purchase," said William Craig, executive director for Moncrief. "With Compellent, we now see data storage as a strategic investment that will allow us to continue to provide exemplary customer service."

The Compellent SAN is providing Moncrief several tangible results, including:

  • Streamlined storage administration
  • Reduction in backup time from 8+ hours to 20 minutes
  • Elimination of 15+ hours per month of weekend overtime
  • Ability to expand capacity and connectivity without limitations
